Hampton Apartment Transformation: Downsizing Without Compromise

Hampton Penthouse Interior Design & Furnishing | Lisa Hunter Interiors

Returning to Melbourne after several years living in New Zealand, our client was looking forward to a new chapter. She had purchased a beautiful penthouse apartment in Hampton, Bayside, Melbourne, making the move from a larger home to apartment living as she prepared for retirement.

With the apartment already purchased and settled before her return to Australia, she wanted to arrive at a home that was completely furnished, comfortable and ready to enjoy.

There was also an important practical consideration. While still living overseas and caring for older family members, our client simply didn’t have the time to travel back and forth to Melbourne, visit furniture showrooms or manage the many decisions involved in furnishing an entire apartment.

This is where our Turnkey Furnishing and Styling Service came in. Over approximately six to eight weeks, we took care of the entire process, from developing the design concept and selecting furniture through to sourcing, ordering, coordinating deliveries, installation and those all-important finishing touches.

Downsizing Without Compromising on Comfort

One of the apartment’s most beautiful features was its outlook. Large sliding doors opened up the living space to expansive rooftop views across the treetops and Port Phillip Bay, filling the apartment with natural light.

We wanted the furnishings to complement that setting, creating a relaxed Modern Australian interior with a warm, natural palette and plenty of beautiful texture.

Throughout the apartment, we introduced warm timbers, wool rugs, linen upholstery, velvet accents and textured cottons. These materials added depth and softness while keeping the overall look fresh and contemporary.

In the bedrooms, beautiful Egyptian cotton bedlinen brought an extra layer of comfort, creating inviting spaces with a subtle hotel feel.

Rather than filling the apartment with furniture, we focused on selecting the right pieces for each space, balancing comfort, quality and functionality with a considered mix of shapes, materials and finishes.

Making a New Home Feel Personal

Although our client wasn’t bringing furniture with her from New Zealand, she did have a collection of artwork and sentimental pieces that she wanted to incorporate into her new home.

These became an important part of our design approach.

We considered how her existing pieces could sit alongside the new furniture and accessories, creating a home that reflected her personality and history rather than feeling like an entirely new space with no connection to her previous life.

We also prioritised Australian furniture brands and local makers throughout the project, alongside artwork from a New Zealand artist whose abstract works complemented the apartment’s natural palette.

It was this combination of new furnishings, meaningful personal pieces and carefully considered details that gave the apartment its character.

A Home Ready for a New Chapter

The result is a beautifully furnished Hampton penthouse that feels welcoming, spacious and comfortable, with everything thoughtfully selected for the way our client wants to live.

More importantly, she was able to return to Melbourne knowing that the furniture, deliveries, installation and styling had all been taken care of.

For us, that’s one of the greatest benefits of a turnkey furnishing service. It’s not simply about choosing beautiful furniture. It’s about managing the entire process so our clients can arrive at a home that is ready to live in and enjoy.
