Stylish, Functional Spaces for Growing Teens
Bedroom styling holds a special place in our hearts. Over the years, we’ve helped many families create bedrooms that balance individuality, functionality and longevity. We’re currently at 75 bedroom designs and counting, and each project reinforces how thoughtful design can support both lifestyle and growth.
While adult retreats often focus on calm, comfort and privacy, children’s and teenage bedrooms give us the opportunity to inject personality, creativity and a little more fun, without compromising on quality or long-term usability.
For this project, our brief came directly from a confident 12-year-old. He loved blue tones, needed practical storage for his growing book collection, and wanted something that felt genuinely cool rather than overly juvenile. His mum was equally clear that the space needed to evolve with him through his teenage years, rather than feeling like something he would outgrow in a year or two.
We translated these insights into an uber-cool mood board, which forms the first stage of our design process. Mood boards allow us to align on direction early, ensuring the aesthetic, materials and overall feel are absolutely right before moving into detailed selections.
Once the concept was approved, we refined the palette by layering his three favourite colours in carefully balanced proportions. Rather than committing to bold wall colours, we anchored the space with soft white walls and a beautiful natural wool carpet to create longevity and visual calm. From there, texture became the hero. A woven rattan bedhead introduced warmth and depth, paired with photographic artwork, timber shelving and practical under-bed storage to support everyday use.
A navy desk chair added structure and contrast, while a neon script feature light delivered a playful ‘wow’ moment without overwhelming the room. Subtle accents of mustard yellow were layered through soft furnishings to bring warmth and a more sophisticated edge to the overall scheme.
The result is a bedroom that feels personal, confident and age-appropriate now, while remaining flexible enough to grow with him over the coming years.
